Wouldn’t it be great if we knew what our HR was going to ask us during the interview? Well, we could know that if we could read minds (which unfortunately, we CANNOT!). But what if I tell you that there is something more important than just answers to their questions?
Yes! Body language, personality and behavior plays a vital role during job interviews.
Here are some important points you should keep in mind before going for
an interview.
Theresa Chiechi / The Balance |
1. Be Confident!
Sit straight and do not fidget. Hunching shoulders is a sign of lack of confidence. Also, don't look up, down or at the sides as this can indicate nervousness. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer as far as possible. Always greet the interviewer with a genuine smile.
2. Keep It Short and Sweet!
The interviewer must be having a lot more interview rounds coming up, so try your best to keep your answers short and to the point. Especially when 'Tell me about yourself'' is asked. You may explain in detail if he/she asks you to. Keep in mind that nobody likes to hear long verbal essays especially when they are running out of time. So, do not give unwanted elaborations.
3. No Need to Exaggerate!
If you're called for this interview, it already means your qualification is almost apt for the role. So, there is no need to overemphasize anything. I'm sure you must be proud of your skills, you definitely should be, but try not to show off your capabilities in front of your interviewer. Remember, self-praise is for losers!
4. Note for Online Interviews!
Make sure you test these 4 components before your Online interview.
- Audio Settings
- Video/Camera Settings
- Internet Connection
- Video Platform

5. Find Your Bright Place!
Chose a location very carefully. It should not be too dark or too much light there. Webcam mics can be very sensitive, so avoid choosing a place with a lot of background noise. Your background should also be professional and uncluttered. A distracting background may take the HR's attention away from what you are saying.
6. Good Internet!
This is very often overlooked. Its always recommended to ensure that your Ethernet or Wifi are working efficiently. You don't want the video conference to get stuck up in-between right? Test your internet speed before you are set to start.
7. Don’t Say Sorry!
Saying "Sorry, I do not know the answer" equals to spilling water over your interview. If you apologize for lack or experience or qualification, you're simply drawing their attention to your weaknesses. Saying sorry again and again also makes your interviewer feel uncomfortable. Instead, act professional and mention that you’re not aware and would definitely be looking forward to learn more about it.

8. Do Not Roam around!
Please sit at one
place and attend the interview. I have seen people roaming around their house
with earphones on during online Interviews. It displays irresponsibility and lack of interest from your side. It is also highly unprofessional. So, sit on your comfortable chair or couch until the interview round ends.
9. Don’t Be a Noob!
Read about the company, their
moto and the product that you’re applying for. Be updated with the news and recent events of the company. Don’t turn up like you’re unaware
of anything. A Good Research before the interview is mandatory.
10. Do Not get Hot-and-bothered!
At times, the interviewer would poke you intentionally to check your emotional tolerance or general behavior. Everyone is allowed to have their personal opinions, stick to it, but don’t get furious. Even if the question triggers you, maintain and calm and showcase your self-possession.

11. Be Transparent!
Any company that is hiring would
prefer someone who is going to stick around for a long time. Please make sure
the relevant information and intention is conveyed.
12. Don’t be Overconfident!
especially about your skills.
Mostly you’ll be conversing with someone who has been in that field for years
together, and they would understand that the will to learn and adapt is always
a welcome trait.
Just keep all this in mind and you're good to go.
All The Best!
only an optimistic can do these kind of things soo very grateful and happy fir yoy Aisha😊
